Hong Kong, and which are reexported to the same or an- other treaty port in China within one year of their arrival in Hong Kong, shall be readmitted into China free of import duty, provided they remain unaltered in their original pack- ages and with the same marks As at the time of importa- tion. Permission, however, may be obtained from the Chinese Maritime Customs for the repacking, but not reconditioning except under rules prescribed by the Chinese Maritime Customs of such goods, and for the addition of other marks to the original ones. Such goods shall also be readmitted into China free of coast trade duty if coast trade duty is hereafter abolished. Should such goods fail to be re-exported from Hong Kong within the specified time limit they shall be regarded as having lost their Chinese" status and be treated accordingly.

(d) Foreign goods which are shipped from one treaty port in China for another treaty port in China with an Exemption Certificate, or under any other arrangement intended to free such goods from import duty at the port of destination, and which are landed for hond- ing or sealed in Hong Hong and are re-exported to the same or an- other treaty port in China within one year of their arrival in Hong Kong, shall be readmitted into China free of import duty, provided they remain unaltered in their original packages and with the same marks as at the time of importation, l'ermission, however, may be obtained from the Chinese Maritime Customs for the repacking, but not reconditioning except under rules prescribed by the Chinese Maritime Customs of such goods, and for the addition of other marks to the original ones. If any such goods are re-exported from Hong Kong to some place other than China, they shall be entitled to a drawback of the amount of import duty originally paid by them upon importation into China, provided that such goods are re-exported from Hong Kong within three years from the date of their original importation into China, and provided that the draw- back privilege still remains in force at the treaty ports in China. (e) Chinese bulk cargo, under Chinese Customs documents, which is landed for bonding in Hong Kong from a treaty port in China, and which is re-exported from Hong Kong to the same or another treaty port in China within one year of its arrival in Hong Kong, shall be readmitted into China free of import duty, provided that it remains in its original condition. It shall also be readmitted into China free of coast trade duty if coast trade duty is hereafter abolished. Should such cargo fail to be re-exported from Hong Kong within the specified time limit, it shall be regarded as having lost its Chinese status and be treated accordingly.

In this Article "foreign goods" means non-Chinese goods, and "treaty port" includes the existing treaty ports and self-opened ports and any place in China now or hereafter declared by the
